Issue: Marriage Amendment
Date: May 12, 2004
Author: Ken Larsen
Article I, Section 3 of the Utah State Constitution says, in part, "the
Constitution of the United States is the supreme law of the land." Article
VI of the US Constitution says, in part, "This Constitution ... shall be the
supreme law of the land; ... any thing in the constitution or laws of any
state to the contrary notwithstanding." The 14th Amendment of the US
Constitution says, in part, "No state shall make or enforce any law which
shall abridge the privileges ... of citizens of the United States, nor shall
any state ... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal
protection of the laws."
Denying the privilege of legal marriage on the basis of sex, or
number of partners, clearly violates the US Constitution. The Utah Taliban
Marriage Amendment violates the US Constitution on its face and cannot be
enforced by any officer who takes his oath of office seriously.
Anyone who speaks in favor of the Utah Taliban Marriage Amendment is
speaking against the US Constitution. If they hold public office, they are
violating their oath of office.
My personal oath to defend the US Constitution from all enemies,
domestic and foreign, requires me to make these remarks. If I am elected
Governor of Utah, I will seek the dismissal of any county clerk who disobeys
my Executive Order to end marriage discrimination in Utah.
I need your vote at the State Convention May 22. Details about the
convention at

Thank you,
Ken
